November 23, 2007, Millbrook, NY - Liz Baldwin, Captain of the Millbrook Fire Department Rescue Squad, was presented with a donation of $35,000 by Eric Hill, Organizer, and Lida Tait, Chief Financial Officer, Fitch's Corner, North Mabbettsville Road. This donation is double the amount raised in 2006 due to sponsorship by Houlihan Lawrence Real Estate and increased attendance at the Spectator Luncheon held during the farm's annual Horse Trials.
Baldwin thanked the Fitch's Corner team and said the donation comes at a time when the all volunteer rescue squad is facing major challenges and has mounted a campaign to increase the number of squad volunteers.
Fernanda Kellogg, founder and host of the Fitch's Corner weekend, announced plans for the 15th anniversary in 2008. "We have been awarded a CIC One Star which is an international qualifying division. This will attract a higher level of horse and rider", Kellogg told the crowd of 50 supporters attending the November 23rd reception. Captain Mark Phillips, who trains the US Olympic Team, will return to design the new and more challenging cross country course. The weekend will expand to three days and be held July 25, 26, & 27. In addition to 250 horses in competition, Fitch's Market will return offering quality fashion gifts, and accessories as well as a selection of horse related products. There will also be demonstrations including the popular Collector Car Exhibition and Parade.
The Fitch's Corner weekend is a summer event that combines exciting equestrian sport in a traditional country setting and benefits a valued community service.
